Return to Kirkmount (Alex, Sam, and Simeon Bigney)
The tale of this family band begins when a father who was a painter exchanged some of his paintings for musical instruments. His sons grew up to play Celtic music in the same style as their ancestors did in the village of Kirkmount, Nova Scotia. Alex Bigney plays harp and bones, Sam Bigney plays fiddle, and Simeon Bigney plays the cello and bodhran. The brothers have been students of many internationally acclaimed musicians, including Jerry Holland, Buddy McMaster, Alasdair Fraser, and Deborah Henson-Conant. The band has played at festivals and in concert halls, made recording, and even won A Prairie Home Companion’s “Talent from Towns Under Two Thousand” contest.
